The Third Eye

Jesus knew the thoughts of the people around him even before they thought. He saw the disciples caught in the storm far away from the mountain where he was still in prayer. He knew that Peter would deny him, yet return via repentance to him. He knew the questions his enemies harbored to trap him. In today’s gospel, he sees the widow putting in two “small coins” and knows that she has put in all she had. Jesus, in an allegorical sense, has a third eye. The realization that nothing escapes the eyes of God can be consoling or troubling, depending upon if we want to be seen by God or to hide from him, which in turn, depends on what we do with our lives. Not only does he see what we do, but he knows what moves our actions as well. How does it make us feel?
