Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque

Virgin

Claro, aquí tienes una breve biografía de Santa Margarita María Alacoque: Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque was a French Roman Catholic nun who played a significant role in promoting the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She was born on July 22, 1647, in L’Hautecour, Burgundy, France, and died on October 17, 1690, in Paray-le-Monial.

Margaret Mary Alacoque’s early life was marked by illness and hardship. At the age of eight, she made a vow of perpetual chastity to the Virgin Mary. After receiving her First Communion at the age of nine, she practiced severe penances. She experienced a period of paralysis for four years, which ended when she made a vow to the Virgin Mary to dedicate herself to religious life.

In 1671, Margaret Mary Alacoque entered the Visitation convent in Paray-le-Monial. She experienced a series of visions of Jesus Christ, during which she received revelations about his Sacred Heart. These visions emphasized the importance of receiving Holy Communion on the first Friday of each month, Eucharistic adoration, and the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Despite facing skepticism and opposition from some within her own community, Margaret Mary Alacoque persevered in spreading the message of the Sacred Heart. She received support from her spiritual director, Saint Claude de la Colombière, who helped her to discern the authenticity of her visions.

Margaret Mary Alacoque’s efforts led to the widespread popularity of the devotion to the Sacred Heart. She was canonized by Pope Benedict XV in 1920. Her feast day is celebrated on October 16th.
