THE GRAIN OF WHEAT

The grain of wheat must die

in bearing life

that of her substance she may grow

a golden head.

A golden head

of infinite worth,

of humble birth,

so crushed and ground and broken

and powdered into bread.

The grain of wheat shall live

in suffering death,

for her substance she shall be

of the Godhead.

Of the Godhead,

Infinite worth

no more of earth,

but raised and blessed and sanctified

a Host in form of bread.
