Commentary on the Gospel of
Lent is a time to renew our commitment to our Christian calling, to seek justice and peace in our world. Today’s first reading is such a call to holiness, ‘Be holy, for I the Lord your God, am holy.’ It does not come much more direct than that. God is challenging us to strive for holiness, but he doesn’t expect us to work miracles, to do the impossible. The Gospel of the sheep and goats spells it out very clearly. Feed the hungry, visit the sick etc. We are probably doing many of these things already. Maybe we need to become more aware so that we can look out for even more opportunities to do good, to love others, to become holy.
