Commentary on the Gospel of
To be holy is to be blessed, to receive God’s blessing of life and love. We often think that we make ourselves holy by doing acts of penance or works of charity, but in reality, holiness is God’s gift. It is God who makes our broken selves whole, then our good deeds proceed from the wholeness that comes from God. On this day, we celebrate not only the many saints of the Church from different times and places, but our being a saintly people. Yes, the Lord who called us to become his people has also made us his holy people.
