Commentary on the Gospel of

Sid Ching, cmf

Today’s feast may seem antithetical to yesterday’s joyous celebration. We have just celebrated the birth of New Life, but today we remember the death of the first witness to that New Life. Life and death have always been twins; every birth comes accompanied by the end of the life that has just begun. Though it is difficult for us to accept this fact, we cannot but face the inevitable. Stephen accepted this but chose to live his life meaningfully and face death, giving witness to life eternal.
