Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Maria Arul Jesu Robin, cmf

The Letter to the Hebrews testify “Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (4:12). Prophet Isaiah tells us, “For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there until they have watered the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it (55:10). Yes, the Word of God is so powerful. The words of Jesus can do wonders and miracles for those who believe in him. A non-Jew centurion understood the power of God’s word better than the Jews. So, with so much of faith in Jesus and his words, he pleads, “say the word and my servant will be healed”. We all need the healing touch of Jesus’ words. We do not want the words of soothsayers, magicians, fortune-tellers. They are often cheats. They sell their words for money. Let us not be cheated by them. We need only Jesus and his powerful words. With faith, let us go to him and be healed of all our physical, emotional, psychological and mental infirmities.
