Commentary on the Gospel of

Fr. Johnson Joseph Thurackal CMF

Jesus uses a parable to describe the Kingdom of God. The parable of the seed points to one aspect of the Kingdom. The growth of God’s Kingdom is sure and it will continue to grow. More and more people will be drawn to God. Mark says ‘a man scatters the seed on the ground.’ There has to be a means and an instrument in the act of sowing. Each one of us is that instrument that God has chosen to reach the Gospel to this world.

The goal of the seed is the ground. It is to this earth that God wants to reach. He wants to be present here. God wants to be close to us. God sends his messengers so that through the word they sow He can plant his Kingdom among the people. The growth of the seed is mysterious. It is God who makes it grow. The secret of life and growth is beyond our comprehension. Growth is sure and inevitable, because growth is of God. The grace of God in human heart is unstoppable.

God assures the growth of His Kingdom and will prepare it for the harvest. Our fears, weaknesses and discouragement are unfounded. This is a great reassurance. We only need to commit to work for the Lord and He will assure a bountiful harvest.
