Commentary on the Gospel of

NOVICE MASTER Fr. Johnson Joseph, cmf

Jesus coming down from the mountain after his  encounter with His Father in prayer, saw an immense crowd of people who were longing for His word and his healing touch, because they knew that from Him came out a gift of life. His audience was comprised of all kinds of people, Jews, and foreigners alike. They were abandoned and disoriented. Jesus accepts all those who seek him without any distinction. God visits all those whom he wants to visit today through his messengers. The people who are called for this mission become a great blessing for the world. These people bear witness to God by their service to humanity till today. They follow their master with full of trust and hope. The disciples of Jesus knew the risks that they would face while preaching the Gospel. Yet they joyfully respond to the call and commission of Jesus.

Apostles have given us an identity: we are God’s holy people and members of his household. It is because we are built on the foundation laid by the apostles. They have handed on to us a spiritual heritage of unshakable faith so that people experience a God of love though our holiness and harmony among ourselves. This spiritual heritage is the tool that we use today to expand God’s Kingdom as the Apostles built steadily on Jesus, the cornerstone of the foundation. Apostles Simon and Jude built diligently on the foundation of love laid by Jesus. We are the apostles of Jesus of our times. Gospel is in our hands today. Like the disciples, Jesus is inviting you and me today to go into the world and to bear witness through our loving service to humanity.
