The Lord’s prayer is a model prayer
Notice the parable is sandwiched within two slices of prayer. The Lord’s prayer is a model prayer to be used by the disciples. Like the parable of the midnight caller, this prayer addresses the request for bread. It urges a directness and simplicity in petitions not unlike Abraham’s pleas in the First reading.
The verses that follow the parable reveal the same God revealed to Abraham, a picture of God who seeks to bestow mercy, a God who withholds no good gift from the one who petitions.
